The Skating Championship - Story

Snow was falling, and cold wind was blowing in front of a house. There was a boy named Dylan, and a girl named Dolly. They were brother and sister who loved skating.

One day, there was a skating championship. Dolly wanted to participate in the championship, so she told her parents. After convincing her parents about championship, they went to Sara who was registering participant’s name, and registered her name.

Next morning when they didn’t leave their bed as it was Sunday, their mother came upstairs to wake them up.

‘After breakfast you are going for practice. Your skating championship is starting after one week, so be ready.’ Mother pulled the curtains and a layer of white snow could be seen on the ground. 

The Snow Fall

 They quickly brushed their teeth, and came downstairs.  In the kitchen melting butter smell was coming. It was pancake for breakfast. They took their breakfast and got ready for skating practice.

 ‘Mom and Dad can we go for skating practice?’ Dolly and Dylan saw each other.

‘Yah! Why not let’s go.’ Mom opened the door and both excited rushed outside.

They all sat in their car, and went for skating rink. It was 9 am, and snow was falling while some children were playing with snow.

After half hour drive they reached there, parked the car, and went inside a skating rink. Dolly and Dylan started their skating practice. All got surprised to see their performance. It was looking like they were flying in the sky. And no one could imitate their moves in the world.

After long skating practice they skated toward their parents, changed their shoes, and decided to go home. 

The Skating Park

 ‘Mom and dad let’s go home our practice is done’. Dolly walked up to her parents.

Dolly and Dylan your practice isn’t completed yet. These moves are your old ones go skate again and try to make new moves if you want to win.

 ‘Ok, mom you are right’.
They started skating again and tried to make new moves, which was little difficult at first, but finally they succeeded to create something new, so after tough practice Dolly and Dylan were sweating and got exhausted.

‘We did some new moves. Now please, can we go home?’ They skated toward mom.

‘Ok kids’. Mom held Dylan’s hand.

They got in the car and drove toward home. As snow was falling, so white layer filmed on the windshield, and it got difficult to see through it.

‘Dad I’m hungry can we eat some snakes.’ Dylan saw his dad in rear-view mirror.

‘Ok honey we’ll go in the best Snakes Shop.     

In market in front of Jorge cafe the car stopped. Dylan got out first as he always loved to come here. He opened the door and got inside.

‘Hello Dylan, how are you?’ A beautiful lady at counter was talking with a gentleman.

‘Fine, Ms Melanie.’

‘Grab your chair. I bring your favorite noodles.’ She smiled.

‘Yah! You are right.’  They all took the chairs, and waited for their order.

The Jorge Cafe

After enjoying in their favorite café, they drove for home. The snow falling had stopped, and children could be seen all around. When they reached home, Dolly was excited for backing a cake as her mom had promised last week.

‘Mom when we bake the cake?’ Dolly kept her shoes in closet.

‘Honey have some rest. We’ll bake after one hour.’ Mom went into the kitchen.

‘Sis we have one hour. What we do?’ Dylan went into his room.

‘I’ll call Ruby and invite her in the championship.’

‘Hello Ruby.’ Dolly called her friend.

‘Yeah I’m fine.’

‘You know I’m participating in skating championship. Come and raise my confidence.’

‘Yah, it’s on Monday’

From kitchen dripping tap sound was coming as Ms Roy was washing some left dishes. After 15 minutes Ms Roy was ready for cake.

‘Children come we baking cake.’

‘I’ll help you.’ Mr Harrison sitting near fireplace got up and walked to the kitchen. There Dolly was breaking the eggs while in steel-big bowl Dylan was beating the paste. The Harrison family made the chocolate cake together and added their secret ingredients love and affection.

As oven alarm went off, Mr Harrison put the oven gloves. The cake was looking like made of Jorge Café and its delicious scent was mouth watering.

‘Mom I can’t resist any longer.’ Dylan eyes were lighted up to see the cake.

‘Take seat I bringing for you.’ Ms Roy cut a piece of the cake and gave it to Dylan.

‘Oh mom it’s extremely delicious. Please some more.’

 I also take one bite.’ Dolly took one piece from the plate.

‘Really mom Dylan is right.’

‘What on the earth I’m doing here!’ Mr Harrison took one piece of the cake as well.

The Chocolate Cake

 At evening, Dolly was doing her school assignment while Dylan was searching on his laptop about solar battery for science project.

‘Dolly what if a phone would charging just by holding in hand by our body heat.’

‘Dylan you better think about your English test. You forgot what teacher said, ‘if anyone wouldn’t perform well then parents will be called in the school.’

‘Dolly you are right I forgot you are a life saver.’

As dinner was ready, the delicious smell of meal was coming from the kitchen. That dinner was special for Mr and Ms Harrison had made it together.

‘Children come for dinner.’

‘We are just coming.’ Dolly and Dylan run to the kitchen.

After one week, the day had arrived which everyone was waiting for the skating championship.

‘Dolly hurry up we’ll get late.’

‘Wait let me pack my skating shoes.’

‘Children come fast it’s your big day. Your dad is waiting outside in car.’ Ms Roy helped Dolly to pack her bag. Both children rushed outside and got in the car.  

When they arrived at skating stadium, their reporters were gathered around. People were excited to get a ticket. Holding their bags Dolly and Dylan were going inside while on Dylan’s shoulder his father had kept his hand.

 ‘Welcome, ladies and gentlemen. Thanks all of you for coming. Let’s get started.’ Shouted the announcer.

‘Dylan what will I do now? I think here everyone is professional.’  Dolly made a worried face.

‘Dolly I understand but you have to prove yourself just enjoy the competition and be focused’.

‘I got it’. Dolly smiled.

The first contestant arrived, waving to the audience. She was in blue-short skirt and her golden hair was tied behind her back. In music she started swinging like a bird, and then did a toe loop. The stadium was silence only the music was playing around.   

The second contestant came, and she also performed very well, then the third arrived and surprised everyone.

There was Dolly turn now. She was wearing pink skirt, looking beautiful than ever. In music she started rolling like a breeze and her rolling surprised everyone. She again started skating after getting enough speed she did twizzel.

The Skating Championship

Now there was time of announcement. On screen all participants name were flashing with their picture while Dolly was standing with her brother near the display board.

‘Dolly your performance was superb.’ Dylan held Dolly’s hand.

‘Thanks Dylan.’

‘Hello Ruby.’ Dolly waved her hand when saw her friend.

‘Dolly your performance was amazing.’ Ruby, her best friend, showed her performance pictures taken on her phone.

As the speaker started announcing the results, all got silent, and watching the score board. There was quietness like silence before a storm. The score board flashed Jessica. She was third. Everyone started shouting. Then Melanie, the second name flashed as she was second. It sounded like there no one was breathing, and heart had got stopped. The score board flashed Dolly, and a wave of joy flooded in the stadium. Dolly’s feet were no longer on the ground because she had won the chance to go in the winter Olympics.
